The over consumption of alcohol is not always the problem but the sympton of other deeper lying issues that need to be addressed. Poor relationships, unemployment & low self esteem contribute to much of the poor drinking habits in this country and bad habits can be hard to break.....

Are we setting a good example?[60 comments]
Education of young persons is required to introduce the message that a "natural high" can be obtained through sport and physical activity. Excess alcohol is not required to produce the "happy feeling" Also a healthy mind and body is produced and not a vulnerable person.

To encourge responsible use of alcohol, I propose that there should be an issuing of a "licence to buy alcohol".

Are we paying a high price for cheap alcohol?[16 comments]
I work part time as a retained Fire Fighter in a rural location. In the 8 years I've been in the service, all the fatal incidents I have attended have involved someone being drunk. Accross Scotland the Fire & Rescue Service have been a lot more active in Fire Prevention recent....

I don't think the problem is cheap alcohol, it's way more expensive than in europe. The problem is boredom - people don't have anyything to believe in or care about anything.

Do women take more risks after a few drinks?[11 comments]
I strongly believe that both women and men take more risks after a few drinks. I know many people who have had casual sexual encounters, and then have regretted it completely the next day. I have also witnessed my own behaviour changing after drinking, and despite being happily m....

Does alcohol affect our relationships with others?[56 comments]
the fact is money hurts people and its the most effective way of changing peoples behavior. Alcohol changes peoples perceptions and heavy drinking on a regular basis degrades personalities in the longterm.

Why is everyone moaning about the government regarding alcohol. Don't get me wrong, they have their faults and lots of them, but isn't blaming them just an excuse. Only the people that have a problem will blame it on someone else. I know all about being in relationships with p....

Health. Are we drinking too much?[13 comments]
The government say 40,000 people a year are treated in hospital as a result of drinking! Thats 0.7% of the population.hardly the massive problem its made out to be. If you started enforcing the laws concerning under age drinking and punishing the idiots among us that figure would....

Most folk who are heavy drinkers will blame everything else on why they do it. If only they could take a good look at themselves and see that the amount and trouble that drink is causing them is the root cause and be honest about it and seek help before they either end up dead or....

Do you think cutting back on alcohol improves your appearance?[7 comments]
Govt has published an alcohol consultation paper and so will be required to look at views on that. It's on the Govt website www.scotland.gov.uk/consultations. And I think there are interesting views on this site too the debate is both positive and negative, read the coments!

To Alex: You say the papers are the source for the outcry of 'our kids are drinking too much.' Please check the figures, you dont need to go near a newspaper, search journals online. You will be gobsmacked. This website was set up around current issues that are circulating in the....

Is alcohol harming women`s health[17 comments]
I feel that one of the reasons that women (and men) drink to excess whilst out is partly to keep up with their friends - ie: ordering a bottle of wine, instead of 2 small glasses, or feeling compelled to join others doing shots. I also think that pubs have to take some responsibi....
